WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR SESSIONS
All information discussed/shared during the initial telephone or email intake will be reviewed with Dr. Heinmaa. This information is passed along to the assigned psychologist.
During the first session your assigned psychologist will initiate a "clinical interview" in which he/she will ask you about your emotional and physical health, your family and relationships, your schooling and employment, and your overall stressors. The focus of this first session will be discussing your current distress and the specific approaches and strategies to address these challenges.
All sessions are 50 minutes in length. The remaining 10 minutes of the hour are used by your therapist to document the appointment and for ongoing treatment planning. In some instances, the first session may be longer, up to 1.5 or 2 hours, depending on the assessment required.
Sessions usually occur every week or every other week. Towards the end of therapy, sessions may be less frequent. Furthermore, our clients may return for "booster sessions" or "check-ins" on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. We will do our best to accommodate your scheduling preferences/needs by offering early morning, evening, or weekend appointments - please just let us know!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continuing to offer sessions remotely via Zoom
or by telephone. We look forward to offering in person sessions soon!
